We need you to contact your legislators now and tell them that the proposed limitation compromises the safety and well-being of your patients. This legislation will be heard tomorrow, February 7, 2018.
Florida House Bill 21 and Senate Bill 8, each under consideration by the Florida Legislature, will limit your ability to prescribe post-operative narcotics to 3 days. The proposed legislation, would also require you to (1) see your post-operative outpatients every 72 hours to prescribe narcotic pain medication and (2) to check the on-line Florida Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (“PDMP”) prior to prescribing narcotic pain medications. We need to be clear that surgeons appropriately prescribing post-operative narcotic pain medications are not the cause of opioid addiction in Florida.
