The Florida Chapter is offering up to four $250 travel grants for residents or fellows to attend the 2017 Legislative Day. The grant is intended to offset the travel expenses associated with attending the meeting in Tallahassee. Preference will be given to members of the Florida Chapter (Membership Class: Resident/Fellow). Applications will be reviewed on a first come, first serve basis until all grants have been awarded.
The 2017 Legislative Day will be January 10-11, 2017 in Tallahassee. Residents and fellows will have the opportunity to learn about Florida’s political process and then participate in it by visiting with legislators. The event will begin the evening of January 10 with a speaker series where residents and fellow will learn how to lobby, and learn about the issues affecting surgeons and their patients. Legislative visits will take place the morning of January 11.
To apply, residents/fellows must submit a short statement (one paragraph) explaining their interest in legislative advocacy and why they would like to attend the event. Include the following information the statement of interest: name, degree, mailing address, email address, phone, program, and specialty. Email the statement to Ryan Essegian at ressegian@floridafacs.org.
